Charlotte is a British contemporary artist, currently living and working from her studio in London. Her practice centres around ideas of voyeurism and the male gaze; more specifically, the pervasiveness of sexualised imagery of women in contemporary media. In her work, she creates forms that are originally from newspaper, magazine and Instagram images, which (to her) uphold the idea of women as passive object: existing for the purpose of being looked at.

Her works on paper depict classic motifs of the female body that are frequently found in the media we consume daily, but don’t necessarily register or notice. The most recognisable is the Hollywood “Legs”, which Hicks has repeated in different forms to reflect the ubiquity of this image in popular culture today.
Charlotte graduated with a BA(Hons) Painting from Edinburgh College Art in 2019.
